A Winter Round-Up from the Best of Boomers

Ajijic street scene

I am home experiencing the cold, wet, windy weather. Not so happily. Hub and I spent two weeks in the ideal climate of Mexico’s Lake Chapala area, enjoying sunny days with temperatures in the 70’s. I was spoiled. No hats, gloves, coats, boots, and no shivering. Every day we took long walks through the town where we stayed, Ajijic, relishing the temperate climate and scenery – the lake, the mountains, the town. I returned home and quickly reverted to couch potato mode. But after a couple of days recuperating from my flight home, an all-day journey involving three airports, I am ready to jump back into routine activities.

Meanwhile my fellow boomers were busy as usual. Carol Cassara took some time to reminisce…

Many things about life today puzzles Carol Cassara, and this week,  she reminisces in her blog about a particularly odd artifact of her youth — the “Slam Book” and compares it to some of what we see on social media.  Read about it in The Slam Book of Today.

Laurie of Laurie Stone Writes dodged a minor catastrophe…

It started out as an ordinary night for Laurie. Her dog Libby wanted to go outside around 10:00 p.m. (Yes, she does that sometimes). Laurie sighed, getting up from her comfortable bed where she’d been watching “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” on Netflix. She noticed Libby seemed especially frantic about getting out the door, yipping, circling, and doing her high-pitched aria as Laurie put on her leash. Libby zoomed outside. And that’s when Laurie smelled it.

Jennifer considers the art of letting go…

Letting go is a skill that can transform your life. It can be challenging, but Jennifer of Unfold and Begin thinks it’s worth the effort. In her most recent post, Learning How to Let Go, she shares some tips to help you along the way.

And Rita discusses an important topic we would rather not think about, but should.

Get familiar with funeral costs before you expect you may need to arrange a funeral, advises Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist, because funeral directors can take advantage of consumers who aren’t informed. If you don’t want to go to a funeral home or if you want to compare prices, you can call a funeral home for information. It’s required to provide it to you under the Federal Trade Commission’s Funeral Rule.

Thank you for stopping by the Boomers. We love to hear from our readers, so please leave comments!
