About Me

Years ago I worked for a financial firm in a strait-laced, crazy-in-its-own-way world, and enjoyed the experience for a long time. Then one day I decided it was time to move on. I quit my job, moved to the New Jersey shore, and now live in a cute cottage by the sea. My town has recently experienced mansion creep, as homes with unique features and personalities are demolished, replaced by cookie-cutter McMansions with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms but no character.

Relatives and friends visit my cottage by the sea during the summer, except during the summer of 2020 when no one stopped by. Few friends and relatives knock on our door in winter, so I write, often with humor.

Blog posts cover everything and nothing – my life’s highs and lows, travels, and comments and criticism on current events. As a long-ago history major, the past appears in my posts occasionally, sometimes shining a perspective on today’s local, national, and world happenings.

My stories have appeared in anthologies, such as Pomme Journal and Perspectives Magazine, and I am a past National Society of Newspaper Columnists award winner.

My husband Steve is my #1 fan and editor. My kids and grandkids keep me young-ish.

Writing takes up time that should otherwise be spent cooking, cleaning, reading, gardening, and doing a lot of other useful things.

I take long walks to explore my neighborhood and beyond, and travel whenever possible.

I hope you enjoy exploring my blog – https://merylbaer.net – and love to hear from my readers. Thank you for stopping by!
