Boomers on Food, Aging, Recovery, and More

It is a busy time of year – fall gardening and early holiday preparations, exciting sports games (Go Eagles! Go Mets! Go Yankees!), and the incessant bombardment of Election Day ads, news, and talk shows. But these goings-on have been background noise to my life for the past couple of weeks. I am recuperating from surgery, moving from bed to couch, watching mindless TV and sleeping.

Meanwhile my boomer friends have been busy. While I consume clear liquid broths, one boomer has much more interesting fare on her mind.

Looking for a simple, delicious, and healthy meal? Over on her blog, Carol Cassara has gone back into her archives to share the recipe for a yummy Mediterranean vegetable tart. It even makes a good company meal!

Is this time of year more amenable to certain personal experiences?

Laurie recently watched a show about a woman who had a near-death experience. Like many people in that situation, the woman described what she saw as beautiful. “I was told by these wise beings that heaven can be anything we want,” she said. “I was in my own utopia.” That got Laurie thinking: What would her personal utopia look like? Here’s a list of six things she’d want if she oversaw her own world

How old are you according to the calendar? How old do you feel physically and mentally? How can you stay young at heart?

Is 60 the new 40 or is 60 the new 60? Rebecca Olkowski, with BabyBoomster.com interviewed author Becky Blue about changing the culture of aging. She is also co-owner of Jessup Cellars Winery in the Napa Valley.

As the holiday season approaches monetary issues are on our minds, including our financial privacy.

Don’t interact with your bank on social media, advises Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist. You don’t want strangers, and even friends, to know where you have a bank account. Your posts could become public, even though you can protect your posts to some extent through your account settings.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you visit my boomer friends. And take a peek into my exciting (sarcasm here) past couple of weeks in My Post-surgery Misadventure.
