Spring beckons me outdoors to plant colorful flowers in my yard. I purchased a couple of flats of promising peonies, pansies, marigolds, and others I cannot remember offhand. I rooted some in pots, and the rest directly into the earth. But then I had to leave home for a few days. Of course it did not rain, my budding beauties drooped, and many died. But I am not discouraged. The season is just beginning!
Meanwhile my fellow boomers wrote about interesting ideas and experiences this week.
Have you heard of the teacup list? Instead of the bucket list with its dramatic, “Before-I-die” goals, we have the teacup list. Instead of feeling panicked you haven’t gone on that cross-country road trip or hiked Thailand or parachuted in the Gobi Desert, you shrink all expectations. With this in mind, here in no particular order are the small (okay, very small) things Laurie wishes to do this summer…
Books are our window to the world, including oldies that remain interesting, and often relevant. Ideas suggested resonate with us years later, as our consumer journalist will confirm…
Did you read Peg Bracken’s 1960s books the “I Hate to Cook Book” and “I Hate to Housekeep Book”? Read about how one of them recently came in handy for Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist.
Boomers often travel, and this week boomer recounts recent travels to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Carol Cassara is cruising through Turkey, Greece, Croatia and Venice, and reporting back on her travels. Things did not go as planned in Istanbul, and she talks about it in How a Trot in Turkey Became More of a Slog in Istanbul. Plus don’t miss her gorgeous photos of Ottoman Empire men’s fashions.
Entertaining and enjoyable activities occur not only far away, but close to home…
Do you believe in Ghosts? Rebecca Olkowski, with BabyBoomster.com went on a Boos and Brews Ghost Tour on the Hollywood Blvd Walk of Fame. And even though there were no sightings of Rudolph Valentino or any other ghosts that are said to haunt old Hollywood, she had fun.
