December Holidays on the Minds of the Boomers This Week

I experienced the first snow of the season this weekend when visiting my Mom in Harrisburg, PA. It wasn’t a big storm, but enough to coat the world in white. A wonderful way to usher in the December holidays!

This season often initiates memories of past holiday festivities…

They still haunt Laurie. She catches glimpses of large Christmas firs in other people’s living rooms, aglow with lights and shiny ornaments. She pictures wreaths and bows and poinsettias and gives a sigh. That’s what her living room used to look like. But time moved on and her family has gone through three distinct Christmas phases…

Traditional dishes are a much-loved part of holiday celebrations.
Hanukkah is going to be late this year in 2024. It starts Christmas evening on the 25th, through January 2ndLatkas, potato pancakes, are a traditional dish to serve during that time. The traditional recipe is yummy, but Rebecca Olkowski, with BabyBoomster.com, came up with a healthier alternative that is just as delicious if you want to try something different.

Our consumer journalist provides an important warning about a popular seasonal scam.

The caller was distraught and crying, reports Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist. “Mom,” he said, “I’m not doing well.” It grabbed at my heartstrings for sure, but … I don’t have any sons. It’s one of the most widely used scams throughout the year, the imposter scam, and it’s being used, along with other popular scams such as gift card scams, more often during the holidays. And, for your holiday enjoyment, holiday-themed scams are everywhere. Read all about it in Robison’s article “Be on Alert for Scams During the Holiday Season.”

Thank you for taking time during this busy season to stop by the Boomers.
