Nostalgia, Women’s Roles, and More from the Best of Boomers

delightful, decadent, and delicious

What do you do when you are so tired you can barely keep your eyes open? The scenario: you have spent days awakened several times during the night, slept on a sofa instead of enfolded in a warm blanket in your comfy, spacious bed, popped up and down all day tending to an injured hub, and prepared and devoured meals composed of remnants of fridge and freezer-burned leftovers.

What do you do? Rest for a few precious moments and indulge in forbidden fruits – in my case chocolate-covered strawberries and a petit fours – or any comfort, high-calorie food usually avoided, graciously provided by thoughtful friends.

Then you enjoy the posts of fellow boomers.

Nostalgia is a pastime boomers indulge in. We relish a peek into our past.

Over on her blog, Carol Cassara has been walking down memory lane, something we Boomers do more of these days. In Talking ’bout My Generation, She points out some of the ways things were so different in our younger days.

Our newest boomer, Beth Havey, presents research into a significant human phenomenon – the grandmother hypothesis.

To all women, whether mothers or grandmothers, aunts or women with love in their hearts….YOU make a difference just being a WOMAN in THIS WORLD.

Laurie Stone entertains this week with an excerpt from her book “Tail Wags and Whiskers”.
“… But for all Floyd’s bravado, playing baseball and suavely sauntering through the playgroups, he wasn’t without his neuroses. One time I opened our front door, and the cat came exploding into the house, crouching in terror under a chair. Randy and I hurried to look out the window, expecting to see a coyote pack or rabid wolverine…” (Excerpt from Laurie’s book, “Tail Wags and Whiskers”)

Our consumer journalist Rita Robison offers ideas on this month’s shopping deals.

After fewer sales in March and April, there are many chances to shop for great deals in May including Memorial Day, advises Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist. Look for bargains on small and major appliances, mattresses, spring clothing, cookware, and more.

Please stop by and say hi to my fellow boomers. And enjoy the Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer!

    Hi Meryl,
Thanks for this…the photos, the links. Loved your words about precious moments. And I’m with you: CHOCOLATE.
Alcohol has never called to me. Chocolate and I’m there.
